Community: Lambeth Voices
Our Lambeth Voices Programme works with all sections of the community, increasing participation, inclusion and access to, creative opportunities.
We work in partnership with Brixton Youth Theatre to deliver a programme of free workshops for young people from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
Projects include:
First Draft
A new play writing competition for anyone living, work working or studying in Lambeth. Selected plays were performed with a professional cast at Lambeth Readers and Writers Festival. Two plays were recorded as radio plays.
2014/15; 2015/16
Lambeth Young Voices
A new writing project delivered to Lambeth Schools. Final work was produced through mixed media as part of the Lambeth Readers and Writers Festival.
New playwriting for under 21’s 2017 - selected entries presented with a professional cast as rehearsed readings with Lambeth Libraries Readers and Writers Festival.
2016/17
From Page to Stage
A writing project for aspiring local playwrights giving practical and creative workshops.
2017
Vintage Voices
A creative writing for Lambeth Elders mapping Brixton’s recent past from 1950s to the present day. An evening of readings, recordings and reminiscence was presented as part of Lambeth Readers and writers festival 2017. This project has involved local people sharing their memories both in written form and as aural history.
Common Ground
An intergenerational project looking at place and identity with Brixton Youth Theatre and Lambeth Elders resulting in live performance, recordings and spoken word presented at Lambeth Libraries.
